I’m not one to get excited. When I first held Cryogenesis (with the water mark on the cover) I knew it was something special. But it wasn’t until I got my own copy (complete with colored spine) that I actually felt I was holding not just my book but a book.
The difference is hard to spot. I’ve had my book for years. I’ve worked on (and in, and through, and up, and down) the pages. Characters changed. Characters died. And then I couldn’t do it and some characters lived instead. The lines of plot twisted and folded and many were shifted to be in Book 2. My book was malleable and subject to change as I saw fit.
But then I held my copy. It was a journey with an end. No more plotting, no more layers. Characters fates were set in a printed world. It was a book, with my name on it.
That’s a feeling I will always be excited about.
